Centre set to speed up social media response structure

I&B ministry for social media will provide assistance to ministries

New Delhi: The Narendra Modi government is set to change old perceptions of incremental delays in government functioning and begin redressing people’s grievances promptly, making its social media platforms a two-way interaction mechanism.

Various ministries and departments have on Friday been instructed to “ensure a two-way interaction is established platforms on social media with quick response mechanism in place.”

In a workshop attended by 150 officials of 59 ministires it was made clear that they should change their ways and interact with the public on the social media. At the day-long session officials were briefed on the social media outreach programme concieved by the new government. They were also trained in organising social media events like Google hangouts and also how to upload videos on YouTube.

The information and broadcasting ministry team for social media will also provide assistance to these ministries in inter-inking of accounts and how to promote each other on the social media so that maximum exposure for government is received.

More such workshops are likely to be conducted in the next few weeks to familiarise officials on issues related to social media. The workshop came days after I&B minister Prakash Javadekar in a letter to all Central ministries asked them to disseminate their policy initiatives through the Communication Hub under the existing New Media Wing of the ministry.
