Hamas fires missiles at Israeli nuke plant

1 missile shot down, 2 miss target; toll in 3 days at 82

Jerusalem: For the first time, Hamas fired three rockets at Dimona in southern Israel, which houses Israel's nuclear reactor..

The Iron Dome missile interception system shot down one rocket before it could land, while two other rockets landed in open areas, Jerusalem Post said.

There was no indication that rockets damaged any part of the reactor, the paper said.

Dimona, is also described as a “mini-India” for its 7,500-strong Indian Jewish community. Some of the Indians living in the town when contacted by PTI said they were safe and were taking precautions.

Elsewhere, Israeli strikes on Gaza killed 31 people on Thursday as a major air campaign entered its third day. The deaths raised to 82 the number of Gazans killed since Israel launched Operation Protective Edge early on Tuesday to halt cross-border rocket fire by militant groups.

Most deaths occurred in Khan Yunis, with a strike at about 2200 GMT hitting a cafe where football fans were watching the World Cup semi-final between Argentina and Holland.

Israel has mobilised 20,000 reservists for a possible ground operation into Gaza, sources said.
