A week ago, Xiaomi announced the launch of the Mi 3 Android smartphone in India. The smartphone is finally listed on the official Indian website with a price tag of Rs 14,999 and pre-registrations will begin from July 15, 2014.

The Xiaomi Mi 3 is a single-SIM Android smartphone sporting a 5-inch full HD 1920x1080 pixel IPS LCD display. The Mi 3 is built around a Snapdragon 800 8247AB chipset featuring a 2.3GHz quad-core processor with an Adreno 330 GPU and 2GB of RAM. The internal storage is limited to 16GB and it cannot be expanded using a microSD card. However, you can use the USB OTG feature to upscale the storage using a USB pen drive.

Moving on, the rear camera has a 13MP sensor with LED flash and the front camera is a 2MP. The connectivity options include 2G/3G, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0, NFC, GPS and GLONASS. The Mi 3 is fuelled with a 3050 mAh battery, weighs 145 grams and is just 8.1mm thick. The entire chassis is built using an aluminium-magnesium alloy frame which makes the phone even sturdier than regular plastic or polycarbonates used by other smartphone manufacturers.

The Xiaomi Mi 3 is powered by a custom Android v4.3 operating system. The custom operating system is built by their own team of developers and named MIUI version 5. The user interface ns heavily tweaked and themed for ease-of-use, eye-candy and multiple features.

The Mi 3 is a high-end smartphone and pitched for a very small price. The Mi 3 will definitely give the present mobile industry a reason to reconsider their product prices. Indian handset manufacturers will also have to consider the same. The Mi 3 is definitely going to give the other smartphones manufacturers a run for their money. Priced at a sweet Rs 14,999, the Mi 3 seems to be a good buy considering that the phone has a great user interface, excellent hardware features and definitely a good reputation in China.
