FIFA World Cup 2014: Radio aid for blind fans

FIFA had exclusively started descriptive radio commentary for blind people
A handful of blind fans that had come to enjoy the experience of attending a World Cup match would have gone back home thrilled on Friday thanks to Fifa’s exclusive descriptive radio commentary for them. The volunteer in charge of the commentary team said around 40 blind fans were at the Maracana for the France-Germany quarterfinal.
“Blind fans are attending World Cup matches after buying tickets like everyone else. Fifa, as part of its Football for Hope programme, wanted to engage them in a suitable way by arranging descriptive commentary on FM. We have the facility in four World Cup stadiums,” she added.
Two commentators describe the match in a distinctive style that would appeal to the blind. “For example, they would describe the atmosphere in the stadium to create an image in their minds. Other interesting tidbits such as the kind of dresses the coaches are wearing, the players’ running style and the antics of the crowd are described to make the match interesting,” she said.
