Mails say Sunanda death was natural

Shashi Tharoor had sent emails to AIIMS head

New Delhi: There were some media reports that Sunanda Pushkar had been planning to address the media over the IPL controversy, but had died before that. There is also speculation that the Aiims authorities have plans to take action against Dr Sudhir Gupta for “gross misconduct”.

Sources said that Aiims is also in favour of handing over the investigation into Pushkar’s death to the CBI.

The government is yet to take any decision on this.

However, Delhi police Commissioner B.S. Bassi said Thursday that it wanted the investigations in the case to be completed as soon as possible.

As for the emails, one of them was sent to Mr Tharoor by a family physician on January 26, and the second one by a child specialist practising in Dubai who claimed he was Pushkar’s family friend.

This was sent to Mr Tharoor on February 12. Both emails suggested Pushkar could have died of “natural causes” and gave details of her medical history.

The two emails also apparently justified two contentious facts about Pushkar’s medical condition — that she was apparently susceptible to bruises on her skin, and that an overdose of Alprax tablets could cause death for someone in her condition.

One of the emails sent by Mr Tharoor to the Aiims director said: “I am drawing this to the attention of Dr Mishra of Aiims through our mutual friend. I recall your fear that without regular hydration and salt intake, she could suffer from recurring episodes of dangerously low blood pressure. Clearly, this must have occurred since she was not eating properly for two or three days.”

Mr Tharoor also attached his family physician’s email to the Aiims director, which said: “If she had no food over three days, and only coconut water, which has a very high content of potassium, (it) could have possibly slowed down her heart rate.”
