Chief Minister Jayalalithaa announced the formation of a single member inquiry commission

Chennai: Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Thursday announced the formation of a single member inquiry commission headed by retired judge Justice R. Raghupathy to probe into the reasons behind the collapse of the 11-storrey construction site on Kundrathur Main Road at Moulivakkam on June 28, a release said.

This commission would investigate in detail on also aspects of the tragic mishap that has claimed the lives of over 60 persons and has left several injured, and pin down the exact reasons and circumstances behind the building crash.

“Several construction workers and others have been killed and many others injured in this tragic incident. The careless approach of those responsible for the event would be identified,” Chief Minister said in a release. The committee would also come out with its findings on how to avoid such accidents in the coming future and lay down guidelines that need to be followed by builders, planners and others involved in construction of high rise buildings in the city.

“Based on the report, the state government would take necessary action against those responsible,” Jayalalithaa said in a release. Justice Raghupathy also headed the single-member inquiry commission to probe into the construction irregularities of the new secretariat complex, which is now a multi-specialty hospital, constituted by the state government.
