AP Non-Gazetted Officers left in lurch as Telangana cancels land

Former Congress govt had allotted 477 acres in Gopanpally in Survey No.s 36 and 37 in 1992

Hyderabad: In what came as a shock to the AP Non-Gazetted Officers’ Association, the Telangana government on Thursday cancelled allotment of 189 acre of land in Gopanpally on the city’s outskirts to it.

The APNGOs had spearheaded the ‘Samaikyandhra Movement’ against the decision taken by the UPA government to bifurcate the state and form a separate Telangana. They had even gone on an indefinite strike for over two months to bring pressure on the Centre to keep the state united.

The most valuable land in Serilingampally mandal, worth nearly Rs 4,000 crore, has been lying unused due to disputes between Telangana and Seemandhra employees since 2007. As per existing market prices, an acre in Gopanpally costs over Rs 20 crore. To provide housing sites to all government employees from 23 districts working in Hyderabad, the former Congress government had allotted 477 acres in Gopanpally in Survey No.s 36 and 37 in 1992.
