Power crisis looms large: Andhra asks for electricity from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh CM N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed the procurement of additional power from various sources to meet the demand.

The state government is already making efforts to procure power from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu for July, a press release from the energy department stated. “Orders have been placed for 300 MW, out of which 100 MW from Karnataka will be flowing from July 1. For the remaining 200 MW, efforts are being made to get the consent of TN. The Central Generating Stations (CGS) will be giving 65 MW additionally as per a corrected ratio of the CGS share between the two states,” said the statement. AP already gets 800 MW as its share from the orders placed in the united state for the purchase of 1,750 MW from private generating stations. The CM will hold a high level meet next week and give a road map to the SECM (State Energy Conservation Mission) as part of the multi-thronged strategy being planned to tide over the energy crisis.

The government is targeting saving at least 15 to 20 percent of energy in future through energy conservation and energy efficiency measures. "The Chief Minister has directed that a mechanism should be developed to involve all the key department like Industries, Municipal Administration and Urban Development, Agriculture, Water Supply etc. to fix the accountability in achieving the desired goals of energy savings for which state and stakeholders will get benefit to a larger extent," as per the statement.
