TJAC planned a maha dharna in Hyderabad against Polavaram project

Hyderabad: After the Telangana movement, Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) has decided to take up cudgels against the Central government ordinance merging seven mandals in Khammam district under Polavaram project with Andhra Pradesh.

The TJAC, which met under the chairmanship of Prof Kodandaram decided to take a delegation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and submit a memorandum requesting the Centre to cancel the ordinance merging the seven mandals. It has also planned a maha dharna in Hyderabad against the Polavaram project in the third week of July.

“Construction of Polavaram irrigation project is an assault on Adivasis. We will join hands with Adivasi MPs to bring pressure on the Centre to cancel the ordinance and stop the project which will displace thousands of Adivasis from their natural habitat,” Prof Kodandaram said after the meeting. He also promised every support to any organisation which takes up the fight against the Polavaram project.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao plans to call on Mr Modi in New Delhi to submit a memorandum on various issues pertaining to the state, including Polavaram, power, river water sharing and funds for various projects among others.
