New Delhi: The saffron party’s newly-elected MPs on Saturday received mantras on parliamentary etiquette, maintaining standards in public life, taking good governance message to the people and working as a family from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He asked party leaders to treat the rule-book on Parliament proceedings like the Bhagavad Gita and not step out of it. In his inaugural speech at the two-day training session of BJP MPs ahead of the Budget Session of Parliament, Mr Modi asked them not to voice their differences in public and not to get disillusioned over small issues as “there is no full-stop in politics”.
He also asked party leaders to study hard on subjects before raising them in Parliament, refrain from speaking to the media out of turn and stay away from corruption.
The Prime Minister, himself a first-time MP, wanted to attend the entire session but could not due to his schedule. The training session is being held in Surajkund, Haryana.
The PM asked party leaders to focus on their conduct both in Parliament and in public as people were observing them and directed them to nurture their constituencies and also use the social media extensively to connect with people.
In his remarks, BJP president and Union home minister Rajnath Singh urged party MPs to ensure orderly and disciplined conduct in the House.
“To be a member of Parliament is an important thing and one must look at it seriously. Remember, people are observing your performance not only in the House but even outside. Our transition from Opposition to treasury benches is not limited to moving a few seats to the other side. This is a significant transition and we must try to appreciate the meaning of this,” the Prime Minister said.
