IIT–JEE results announced, Rajasthan's Chitraang Murdia topper

Only 5 girls made it to the top 100

New Delhi: Results of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Exam (IIT-JEE advanced) were announced on Thursday with only five girls making it to the top 100 qualifying students. Girls formed only 11 per cent of the total qualifying students, JEE in-charge and IIT Kharagpur professor M K Panigrahi told PTI.

Chitraang Murdia, a student of the Delhi Public School, Udaipur, Murdia, scored got 97% marks in the CBSE boards. Bucking the IIT trend of bagging a lucrative corporate job or becoming an entrepreneur, the 17-year-old topper wants to become a researcher.

"I want to get into research either in the field of electronics or computer science. I have an inclination for research and would prefer that over a corporate job," Murdia told PTI from Kota in Rajasthan. The youngster has topped the JEE (Advanced) exams by securing 334 out of a total of 360 marks and is eyeing a seat in IIT-Bombay.

Among girls, Aditi from IIT Roorkee zone is the topper amongst girls, securing an All India Rank of 7. There are five female candidates amongst the top 100.

As per official reports, around 1.19 lakh students attempted the joint entrance examination to get admission to undergraduate engineering courses at Indian Institutes of Technology in Bhubaneswar, Bombay, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jodhpur, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Mandi, Patna, Roorkee, Ropar and Varanasi and ISM Dhanbad.

Students need to enter their JEE (Advanced) 2014 Roll Number and date of birth on the official website. The All India Ranks of JEE Advanced will be announced after the results.

Once the JEE Advanced results are declared, candidates can then move on to online filling of choice for a number of courses.
