K Chandrasekhar Rao slams TV9, Jyothi for ‘racist’ jibe at MLAs

KCR threaten to enact Cable TV Act if media resort to 'malicious campaigns' against Telangana

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday threatened to enact the Cable TV Act if media organisations resort to “malicious campaigns” against Telangana.

The Act will bring the media under the control of the government as Tamil Nadu has done. Replying to the debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address in the Legislative Assembly, Mr Rao specifically referred to the news channel TV9 and the Telugu daily Andhra Jyothi, and accused them of spitting venom against Telangana every day and unleashing a misinformation campaign against the state.

He alleged that TV9 had insulted the Telangana Assembly in a programme telecast recently, which allegedly said that “those eligible to see movies through moving talkies in rural areas were made to sit in multiplex cinema in city”, implying indirectly that the Telangana Assembly had lost its glory and importance with the absence of Seemandhra leaders in the House.

He further alleged that Andhra Jyothi is spreading false propaganda against his government with the “malicious intention” of creating a “negative image” of the government.
