Ceasefire violation by Pakistan along LoC; Omar questions timing

Pakistan troops on Friday targeted Indian posts with heavy firing in Poonch district

SRINAGAR: The Pakistan troops on Friday targeted Indian posts with heavy firing and mortar shelling along the LoC in the Poonch district, prompting retaliation by Indian forces.

Officials termed it as first major ceasefire violation along the LoC by the Pakistani troops si-nce the new government came to power.

Pakistani officials said that it were the Indian troops who fired mortars in the PoK injuring two civilians. They said that the Pakistani troops responded to the Indian firing “effectively.”

Jammu and Kashmir CM, Omar Abdullah, questioned the timing of the ceasefire violation a day ahead of defence minister Arun Jaitley visit to the state. “Is it just a coincidence that the defence minister is visiting J&K, for his 1st visit, to review the security situation tomorrow,” he tweeted.
