Weaving a new tale

Actress Suhasini on her upcoming film that is based on cricket

Regarded as one of the most bankable stars in the film industry, the student of cinematography from the Madras Film Institute, Suhasini is acting again, but this time in a Kannada film. “My film is called Sachin Tendulkar Alla — it is a cricket-based film. The story is about my character’s younger brother who was born with autism. So, in order to take care of him my character decides not to get married.

I soon realise that my brother’s interest lies in cricket, so I encourage him. The film also stars Venkatesh Prasad, as my fiancé. But, I don’t get married to him as I focus on my younger brother. He understands that and helps me,” she says.

Ask her what she does, when she’s not working and she states, “I collect people together to do something creative. I also run a film festival in Chennai and work as a film curator for a few international film fests. I have aged parents who I take care of, so it keeps me busy too.”

About her love for traditional sarees, she says, “I pick up metres of khadi cloth and get it stitched. Though, I have never tried my hand at weaving, my husband Mani Ratnam can actually weave,” she admits. Suhasini also runs an NGO that helps single women, who are widowed or are deserted.
