Beas tragedy: Mahesh Babu fan Aravind Kumar wanted to study in the US

He was waiting to finish his engineering degree to fly to the US to pursue MS

Hyderabad: He was waiting to finish his engineering degree to fly to the US to pursue MS. He used to tell his parents that he would earn a postgraduate degree from a reputed university in the US, and then would take care of the family.

But when Aravind Kumar Gonoor stepped into the Beas River along with his friends, little did he knew that the quiet Thalot valley would turn deadly in minutes. Neither did he know that he would be swept away in the chilly water released from Larji dam.

Aravind's body was retrieved from the river on Thursday by the rescue team. His parents dreams have been shattered. They would never again see his determination to fulfil his dreams. “Aravind was quite determined about his career. He often told his parents that he will be going to the US for higher studies,” said C. Ketan Kumar, one of the survivors. “He was my lab partner this year. We had spent a long time together and used to work together,” said Ketan.

Aravind, who is an ardent fan of Tollywood star Mahesh Babu, never used to miss any movies of his idol. “He always made it a point to watch Mahesh Babu’s movies soon after they are released. In fact, his Whatsaap status and display picture was related to Babu's upcoming movie Aagadu,” said one his friends, adding that Aravind was eagerly waiting for the movie’s release.

His friends said that Aravind also had a good grasp on politics and had opinions on all political issues. “He was also a supporter of Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, whom he admired a lot,” said Purna Shekhar, a survivor and a classmate of Aravind. Aravind's body is likely to reach Hyderabad on Friday. He was a resident of Hill Colony in Vanastalipuram.
