Separate EAMCET for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh planned

Both AP and Telangana will have different Medical and engineering entrance exam

Hyderabad: Telangana and Andhra Pradesh will in all probability have different entrance examinations to medical and engineering courses from the next year.
Telangana education minister G. Jagadish Reddy on Monday said it was not right to have education as a common subject for 10 years when everything was divided. He said separate CETs would be conducted from next year.

Mr Jagadish Reddy was speaking after releasing the Eamcet ranks on Monday. When asked if the Telangana government anticipated any problems in the ensuing counselling and admission processes in view of the state split, he said steps will be taken to ensure that students of both regions are not inconvenienced and the process is completed normally.

However, he added, “There are clauses pertaining to education in the Reorganisation Bill that can’t be implemented. When everything in the state is split, it is not correct to continue with education as a combined subject. Next year onwards, separate tests will be conducted. Education ministers in both states will sit together and resolve these issues. We will take decisions favourable to both sides and students.”

Mr Jagadish Reddy, however, said the government is yet to take a decision on the issue of fee reimbursement. It was one of most important schemes of the previous government.
“We are yet to take a decision on fee reimbursement. It is a policy matter and will be decided in a Cabinet meeting over the coming days. It is too early to say anything now.”
