Vijayawada: On Saturday, Vijayawada city resembled a sea of yellow, the colour of the Telugu Desam, as the party activists prepared for the swearing-in ceremony of Andhra Pradesh CM-designate N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Ironically, the city was once known as the ‘Red City’ due to the dominance of Communist parties here. In a strange twist of fate, the TD, which had struck electoral alliances with the Left parties, is now the dominant force in the state, while the Left base has entirely eroded.
It was the Left parties that had started the culture of tying buntings and banners of party colours that was adopted across the country.
The rank and file of the TD has been active in recent days, tying banners and pasting vinyl posters at every nook and corner of the city, hailing the victory of the party in the recent general election and congratulating Mr Naidu.
