Welfare on top of K Chandrasekhar Rao’s list

KCR has decided to keep all the welfare departments under his control

Hyderabad: Mr Chandrasekhar Rao got a rousing reception from the Telangana employees at the Secretariat when he arrived as the Chief Minister.

He said his government would maintain cordial relations with the Centre and the governments of neighbouring states.

“People of Telangana are looking forward to a progressive and development-oriented state. We will make Telangana a model state in the country in all respects,” he promised.

He said a Telangana State Advisory Council would be constituted with senior journalists and intellectuals from various sectors to guide the government to achieve the desired goals.

“Welfare will be of utmost priority. In the next five years, we will spend '1 lakh crore for the welfare of SCs, STs, Backward Classes and minorities. Of this, Rs 50,000 crore will be spent on SC welfare alone. I will myself keep the portfolios of all welfare departments for effective implementation,” he announced.

Mr Rao also assured farmers about waiving off farm loans up to '1 lakh each and make Telangana the “seed bowl of India.”

He said the government would take up housing schemes for the weaker sections on a scale never seen in the country. Every poor houseless family would get a 125-yard house comprising two bedrooms, hall, kitchen and a toilet.

The new Chief Minister announced that a single-window cell would be opened in the CMO to grant clearances to industries.

Admitting that Telangana was facing power shortage, he promised to make it a power surplus state within three years.
