IPL 7: Kolkata goes euphoric after KKR's blockbuster IPL win

KKR fans had organised a havan to wish their team

Kolkata: Kolkata erupted in joy twice over as firecrackers lit up the sky and fans were out on streets after the home franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders registered a nail-biting three-wicket win over Kings XI Punjab for their second IPL title.

No sooner Piyush Chawla sealed the chase with a boundary in three balls to spare to win the IPL-7 in Bangalore, it was a mad rush back home in Kolkata as firecrackers could be seen all over the city. It was a festive like atmosphere in the Shobha Bazar area where Shah Rukh Khan fans celebrated till late in the night after their prayers for last two days were heard with KKR winning this year's title in a nerve-wracking chase.

"We had organised 'havans' and were praying for the team's success since yesterday. We almost had a heart attack with the fluctuating fortunes till the end of the match but it was a fairy tale ending just like that of a Bollywood blockbuster, it's such a big relief!" a member of the fan club said wearing the KKR's purple-gold jersey.

It's not only Shobha Bazar but many parts of the city were seen gripped by the midnight euphoria after KKR's thrilling chase and people were seen waving KKR flags and screaming the team's slogan: 'Korbo, Lorbo, Jeetbo Re'. Such was the atmosphere that the sports-frantic city is all set to witness another 2012-like euphoric celebration when the Shah Rukh Khan co-owned franchise lands here.

Earlier the busy streets of Kolkata wore a deserted a look as soon as the match began at 8pm with the city's fans being glued to the TV screen. Even the Cricket Association of Bengal office bearers had turned up in Bangalore to witness the grand finale and bring the triumphant team back home. "Of course, there will be celebrations after we return home," CAB joint-secretary Subir Ganguly told PTI from Bangalore.
