IPL 7: My technique is not great, admits Virender Sehwag

Sehwag praised coach Sanjay Bangar, compared him to Gary Kirsten

Mumbai: Like his batting, Virender Sehwag has a simple approach to life. He knows the day he fires, the opposition would be sent on a wild leather hunt, but when he fails his team will have to pay a big price for it. Despite scoring a scintillating century (122 off 58 balls) that took Punjab to their first IPL final, Sehwag had no qualms in admitting his technique ‘is not that great’.

“So I have to correct it (technique). I have to back myself, go out there and give my 100 per cent. Everybody was hoping I would score hundred and double hundred in first class cricket but that didn’t happen. When your time is not good, you can’t do anything. Maybe it was my day and I just told myself Chennai should pay for my day,” he added.

Sehwag praised Kings XI coach Sanjay Bangar for backing him and other individuals in the team. He said Bangar was on par with Gary Kirsten if not better.
It was under Kirsten’s guidance that India won their second World Cup in 2011.

“Our coach, Sanjay Bangar, has done a fantastic job, motivating everyone from the youngsters to the seniors. He’s been working really well with each player,” said Sehwag. “If you compare Sanjay Bangar to Gary Kirsten, you’ll find a lot of similarities — he’s equally good and as calm as Gary was.”
