Venkaiah Naidu meets ministers on Rajya Sabha MP issue

Bringing an amendment to the Act to this effect is being considered by the government

New Delhi: Parliamentary affairs minister M. Venkaiah Naidu met ministers representing different departments late on Thursday evening and discussed ways and means to resolve the issue of allotting members of the Upper House to Telangana and Seemandhra at the earliest as it involves sensitivity of the MPs belonging to various regions.

Bringing an amendment to the Act or an ordinance to this effect are the options being considered by the government but a final decision would be taken in the next few days.

The meeting came a day after Mr Ansari deferred the process of allotting Rajya Sabha members to the new states till Friday after the government sought time to discuss the issue.

This came after several Rajya Sabha members pointed out the problems with the system. The government’s decision to scrap the lottery would be conveyed by minister of state for parliamentary affairs Prakash Javadekar to Mr Ansari when he chairs a meeting on Friday with the MPs from the state.
