Bengaluru: With four MPs making it to the new council of ministers—two elected from Bengaluru—Karnataka figures fourth in terms of number of ministers who took oath along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday.
Former chief minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, former party president M. Venkaiah Naidu, and national general secretary H. N. Ananth Kumar made it to the Union cabinet while G.M. Siddeshwara, elected thrice from Davangere, was sworn in as minister of state.
Interestingly, Mr Sadananda Gowda and Mr Ananth Kumar, who were elected from Bangalore (North) and Bangalore (South) respectively, have been accommodated in the Union cabinet. Mr Modi has struck the best caste matrix by inducting a Vokkaliga (Mr Sadananda Gowda), a Lingayat (Mr Siddeshwara), and a Brahmin (Mr Ananth Kumar). Though Mr Venkaiah Naidu hails from Andhra Pradesh, he has been elected to Rajya Sabha from Karnataka.
In all, 17 BJP MPs were elected to Lok Sabha in last month’s polls.
