Pakistan frees Indian fishermen as goodwill gesture, Sri Lanka follows suit

All fishermen in Sri Lanka's custody freed ahead of Rajapakse's visit

New Delhi/Karachi/ Colombo: In a goodwill gesture before Narendra Modi’s swearing-in on Monday, Pakistan freed 151 Indian fishermen on Sunday while Sri Lanka ordered the release of all Indian fishermen in its custody. In Pakistan, on PM Nawaz Sharif’s orders, the authorities released the fishermen who will be handed over to India at the Wagah border Monday. The freed prisoners are being taken in an airconditioned bus to the Wagah border. In Colombo, a spokesman of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse said he had ordered the release of all Indian fishermen ahead of his visit.
