Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar welcomes Sharif’s decision

CM hoped that this would mark a new beginning in ties

Srinagar: Political parties and leaders in Jammu and Kashmir have welcomed Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s decision to attend the swearing-in ceremony of PM-designate Narendra Modi, terming it a “wise historical move”.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said he is “very glad” to hear that the Pakistan PM has accepted the invite which, he asserted, shows that “he can prevail over forces inimical to good relations with India”.

He hoped that this would mark a new beginning in ties between our two countries. “The people of Kashmir will be watching closely,” he tweeted.

PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti said the occasion would introduce “a lot of positivity” into the relations of the two countries. Kashmir’s chief cleric and chairman of his faction of the separatist Hurriyat Conference alliance, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said, “We can hope for an amicable solution of the Kashmir problem when the two countries begin to trust each other and come closer.”
