Kalam conveyed his three priorities during a telephone call with Modi

New Delhi: In his three-point advice to Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi, former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam has asked him to take steps to lift over 150 million people out of poverty while achieving employment generation potential for 64 million youth to achieve “sustainable economic prosperity.’

Mr Kalam conveyed his three priorities during a telephone call with Mr Modi on Tuesday, minutes after the BJP leader was appointed as the PM by President Pranab Mukherjee. During the call initiated by Mr Modi, Mr Kalam congratulated the Prime Minister-designate and conveyed his good wishes to achieve sustainable development with peace and prosperity.

Mr Kalam asked Mr Modi to launch National Smart Waterways Grid so as to ensure water for both urban areas and 6 lakh villages across the country. This would ensure water availability during drought time, and also managing water storage and distribution during the times of flood.

“Creating earning capacity to every family, particularly the middle class and those below poverty line. The figure is about 150 million families out of 200 million families in the country. This is possible only by establishing 7000 PURA clusters through physical, electronic, knowledge and thereby economic connectivity,” the ex-President told Mr Modi.

He also told Mr Modi that the country should work for achieving “sustainable economic prosperity” with employment generation potential to 64 million youth.
