Narendra Modi resigns as Maninagar MLA

Modi was elected to the Assembly from Maninagar for the first time in 2002

Gandhinagar: Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi resigned as the Member of Legislative Assembly from Maninagar constituency of Ahmedabad on Wednesday, after resigning as the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

As Modi submitted his resignation to the Speaker of the Assembly Vaju Vala, he was accompanied by Anandiben Patel, who would be succeeding him as the Chief Minister, and other state BJP leaders.

Vala accepted the resignation.

Modi was elected to the Assembly from Maninagar for the first time in 2002, and re-elected from there in 2007 and 2012. Before that, in 2001 after he became the Chief Minister for the first time, he had been elected to the Assembly from Rajkot in a mid-term election.

63-year-old Modi, who led BJP and NDA to a landslide victory in Lok Sabha elections, will be sworn in as the Prime Minister on May 26.
