Mumbai: The extent of hardship that India Inc went through in doing business in the last decade has been showcased in the “Ease of Doing Business: report brought out by KPMG-CII”.
For instance, 78 per cent of the respondents interviewed for this report felt that for starting a business the number of windows or ministries one has to visit is not reasonable; 69 per cent of the respondents feel that there is a lack of effective land acquisition process; 58 per cent of the respondents feel the number of visits made to each department to obtain the permissions pose major obstacles in the approval process; 69 per cent of the respondents feel that there is a lack of effective land acquisition process and 83 per cent of the respondents feel that unsecured land titles generate uncertainty”.
On the tax front, 90 per cent of the respondents believe that the tax authorities are not proactive in promoting investments and more than half the respondents have faced delays in obtaining service tax refund.
Chandrajit Banerjee, director general, CII hoped the new government would accord due importance to “this extremely urgent agenda that would help churn the wheels of growth.”
