Lt General Dalbir Singh Suhag named Army chief officially

Lt. General Suhag will have a tenure of two years and five months in office as Army chief

New Delhi: The Union government on Wednesday officially announced that Army vice-chief Lt. Gen. Dalbir Singh Suhag would be the next Army chief.

The appointment has been announced about two and a half months ahead of the retirement of the current Army chief Gen. Bikram Singh which is slated on July 31.

“The government has decided to appoint Lt. Gen. Suhag, who is presently the Army vice-chief as the next Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) after retirement of the present chief General Bikram Singh,” a defence ministry release said.

The UPA-2 government had on Tuesday approved his name for the post. Lt. Gen. Suhag will have a tenure of two years and five months in office as Army chief.
