Volkswagen to launch 10-speed car

The new 10-speed auto-gearbox is designed to keep fuel efficiency in mind

Mumbai: Volkswagen, the German auto car maker, has revealed limited information about the 10-speed version of the dual-shift automatic gearbox.

As reported by AutoCar, Volkswagen has given few inputs about the 10-speed dual-shift automatic gearbox as part of a presentation on future driveline technology at the annual Vienna motor symposium in Austria.

The dual-shift gearbox is being planned to be featured in both transverse and longitudinal engine applications. This indicates that the new engine will eventually be used in a wide range of models throughout Volkwagen’s car family.

The new drive engine is a key development and is said to improve the efficiency of all future vehicles by almost 15 per cent by 2020. The 10-speed engine will also be a successor to all existing 6-speed units used in present models.

The manufacturer has not confirmed about any plans for production as yet, but did confirm that the new engine is being developed and can handle torque loads of up to 369lb/ft.
