2 persons died as chariot they were pushing came in contact with High Tension wires

Anantapur: Two devotees died and 40 suffered burns, 10 of them seriously, when the chariot carrying the local deity touched High Tension wires electrocuting those pushing the vehicle at Kasepalli village under Peddavadugu mandal in Anantapur district on Friday night.

Ramanji, 25, of Peddavadugu died on the spot while Muthayala Reddy, 40, of Kasepalli died at the Gooty hospital where he was rus-hed to. Police shifted the 10 others with serious burns to the Kurnool General Hospital while the others are receiving treatment at various others hospitals.
Sources said that thousands of devotees gathered in Kasepalli village to celebrate the Goddess Sunkulamma Jatara. A decorated chariot pulled and pushed by devotees was part of the procession. The top of the chariot came in contact with live High Tension wires passing over the village. Due to this, all the people in the procession suffered an electric shock triggering a stampede.
Anantapur SP S. Senthilkumar told Deccan Chronicle that while two persons died when the chariot they were pushing came in contact with High Tension wires, at least 10 who suffered serious burns were shifted to Kurnool for better medical aid. The remaining are being treated at various local hospitals.

Power supply was switched off to the entire village soon after the incident. Police personnel rushed to the spot and started rescue operations. A generator was also pressed into service.

RDO Hussain Saheb along with medical staff and firefighters rushed to Kasepalli village.
