Hawala racket busted in Hyderabad

The cops seized around Rs 6 lakh from two arrested persons

Hyderabad: The North Zone Task Force officials busted a ‘hawala’ racket and arrested two persons. The accused were taking the money to Nandyal, Kurnool and Nellore. The cops seized around Rs 6 lakh from them.

One of the accused is 30-year-old Syed Barkatulla Basha, 30, the city secretary of Popular Front of India. The other one is Balvantsingh Purohit, 32.

N. Koti Reddy, additional deputy commissioner of police, said the team raided Durga Bangle Store at Begum Bazaar and nabbed the accused. On interrogation, the duo revealed that Basha is an active PFI member.

In AP, the PFI’s political wing SDPI had fielded candidates in the polls.

“The money had been sent for the poll candidates through hawala channels from Delhi. The accused were arrested when they were planning to take the money to Kurnool,” the cops said.
