BJP to review probe panels, says Venkaiah Naidu

BJP has accused UPA government of launching personal attack against political opponents

Hyderabad: The BJP will review all inquiry commissions set up by the UPA government after the elections were notified, including what has come to be known as Snoopgate, should it come to power at the Centre.

“All committees appointed (by UPA) will be reviewed. Nothing is going to happen. As if there is no other issue in the country, the UPA government and the Congress leaders have decided to appoint a commission on Snoopgate while demitting office. It shows their mean mentality, desperation and frustration,” said M. Venkaiah Naidu, MP and BJP Parliamentary Board member, on Saturday.

The BJP has accused the UPA government of launching a witch-hunt against political opponents and “shamelessly” indulging in personal attacks, ignoring burning public issues.

Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde and law minister Kapil Sibal announced recently that a judge will be appointed before May 16 to inquire into allegations that Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP prime ministerial nominee, Narendra Modi used state police machinery to snoop on a young woman.

To a query, Mr Venkaiah Naidu said he would not like to discuss Congress leader Digvijay Singh since “he (Singh) is busy with something else”.

Mr Venkaiah Naidu who has been visiting several states, especially in the South, claimed that the BJP-led NDA would win 320 Lok Sabha seats, and the BJP-TD combine would form the government in Seemandhra and put up a good show in Telangana too, though he refused to predict the number of seats the combine would win in Telangana.

Describing public broadcaster Prasar Bharti as ‘Congress Prachar Bharti,’ he demanded a white paper on the time allotted to leaders of various political parties on Doordarshan during the last 100 days and the reason for deletion of some portions of Mr Modi’s interview by the public broadcaster. He said that the Congress and YSR Congress were one and the same. If the YSRC (the BJP’s main opponent in Seemandhra) claims credit for the welfare schemes initiated by the late YSR, it should also take the discredit for all the scams, he said.

“How can Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy, who was not in power and not a chief minister, claim credit for the YSR-led Congress government schemes? If you want to take credit, then you should also take discredit,” he remarked.
