The EC had prohibited broadcasting and publishing of poll campaign related news

Hyderabad: Election Commission officials lodged a complaint against five television channels for violating EC rules by broadcasting poll campaigning during the prohibitory period. Central Crime Station police have booked cases against TV channels NTV, TV9, ETV2, ETV 3, and Sakshi.

The EC had prohibited broadcasting and publishing of poll campaign related news from Monday, 6 pm. CCS deputy commissioner of police Pala Raju, said that Election Commission officials had complained that five channels had continued to broadcast poll campaigning of candidates in different constituencies.

“We have booked a case against these five channels under Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act,” he said.

As the election campaign ended by April 28 evening, Election Commission had issued strict instructions, warning media houses to refrain from broadcasting and publishing content that endorsed the candidates.
