The PlayStation 4 hasn’t received a major system update in months. While the OS is still solid, there were a couple of features that were missing from the console. Sony has confirmed that the PS 4 1.7 update will address those concerns when it releases later today.
This update adds some new features and makes critical changes; including the ability to turn off HDCP which makes it possible to record footage and changing the brightness level of the DualShock 4 lightbar.
The next big addition is SHAREFactory, which features basic video editing options. Sharing is a big part of the PS4, as broadcasting or uploading pictures and videos is a just a button away. With SHAREFactory, you can combine captured video clips using filters and transitions and add text or background music to the video.
PS 4 owners can now transfer their videos and pictures to a USB drive, making it easier to upload them on Youtube. The other feature coming with the 1.7 update is pre-loading. While already available on the PS 3, pre-loading allows you to download your digital games before they are officially released.
This way, consumers won’t have to spend hours or even days downloading a game after its launch, and can play it as soon as it gets unlocked. The PlayStation 4 can also auto-download your pre-ordered games whenever the build is made available.
