Ukraine Crisis: US, Ukraine, Russia trade barbs

Russia, US move in assets as Germany reminds of peace options

Kiev: As the situation warms up in the tumultous nation of Ukraine, neither of the countries, US, Ukraine or Russia neither seem to be backing down from the war of words while Germay continues to bring the three nations under the peace process.

As President Barack Obama and other EU nations raised alarm of more sanctions on Moscow, Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov slammed US Secrretary of State John Kerry and alleged that US was trying to take control over Kiev which US has accused Russia of planning ever since the crisis began.

Meanwhile, charged with the aid of EU nations and Ukraine Army’s success in Slavyansk, acting preimier of Ukraine, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, said that Russia was loooking to start another world war.

As the countries traded barbs, both US and Russia have mobilised their troops in the region. While Moscow ordered drills for troops along the Ukraine border, Washington, which has already placed troops in Poland, sent troops to Latvia.

On the other hand, the International Criminal Court’s chief prosecutor has opened a initial probe into crimes committed before and during the fall of Ukraine’s ousted president Viktor Yanukovych, the court said on Friday. If the court launches a full probe, it would be the first outside the African continent.

I would save Putin if he is drowning: Obama

Seoul: It’s official: even though they are involved in the worst East-West clash since the Cold War, Barack Obama would save Vladimir Put-in from drowning. Mr Obama on Friday delivered his answer to a question posed to Mr Pu-tin during a live television appearance earlier this month — would his US rival come to his rescue? Mr Putin answereding that though he did not have a special personal relationship with Obama he thought the US leader was “a decent and brave person.”

“And of course, he would,” he said. In a rare moment of humour at an alarming moment of the Ukraine crisis, Mr Obama confirmed he would indeed throw the Russian leader a lifeline, when questioned by a US journalist. “I absolutely would save Mr Putin if he were drow-ning,” Mr Obama said.

“If anybody is out there drowning, I would save them,” he added. “I used to be a pretty good swimmer, I grew up in Hawaii,” Mr Obama said.
And later he added with a rueful smile, “I am a little bit out of practice.”
