Kiran Shaw in soup for tweet on Infosys meeting

Kiran Shaw tweeted about the bright future of Rohan Murthy
Bengaluru: Had she been in America, US attorney Preet Bharara would probably have had a field day going after her, just as he had with taking former McKinsey boss Rajat Gupta to court. A week old tweet by Bengaluru’s Biotech icon Kiran Mazumdar Shaw about an Infosys board meeting has dragged her and Infosys chairman N.R. Narayana Murthy’s son Rohan Murty into controversy, not with the authorities but with Ms. Shaw’s twitter followers.
On April 18, Ms Shaw tweeted, “At recent Infy Board Meeting I was most impressed by Rohan Murthy’s brilliant tech loaded presentation which will enormously benefit Infy”. The response was swift and brutal one could almost hear Narendra Modi ridiculing ‘shehzaade’ and it was aimed at both Ms. Shaw and Mr. Murty. “So Infy has found the rajkumar. When is Biocon getting one?” asked one; “So is this the beginning of the campaign to instate the heir on the throne?” said another.
Mr. Murty’s induction into Infosys as his father’s Executive Assistant has been the subject of much derision, especially because Mr. Narayana Murthy had for years maintained he would not allow Infosys to become a family concern. His repeated assurance that Mr. Murty would exit Infosys along with him has not convinced his detractors. Almost a week later, as newspapers started to pick up the tweet thread and made public expert opinion that while it was fine for Mr. Murty to make a presentation to the Infosys board it was unethical for Ms. Shaw to be tweeting about the proceedings, Ms. Shaw on Wednesday apologised for her action.
“I apologise for this inadvertent and improper tweet on Rohan Murty I agree it was incorrect to do so”, she tweeted, adding in the next tweet, “I guess I just wanted to express my opinion on a matter that has been so strongly criticized”.
