Will N Srinivasan be shown the door at BCCI emergency meeting today?

Mumbai: Shivlal Yadav is set to chair the emergent working committee meeting here on Sunday. According to sources, N Srinivasan will not attend the meeting, despite being eligible to attend as president of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association.

There is speculation regarding an attempt to remove Srinivasan completely from the BCCI. However, according to reports, the main focus of the meeting would be to establish a new code within the BCCI in which they would make a provision to find a new, independent probe panel which could be between 3-5 members with a majority being from outside.

Several top BCCI officials are currently in the UAE for the ongoing Indian Premier League. But most of them will now have to fly down to Mumbai in time for the crucial meeting. The BCCI’s website (www.bcci.tv) says that interim IPL chief Sunil Gavaskar’s name tops the list of 24 members of the working committee.

Further the Supreme Court had made it clear that with regard to all other matters of BCCI, Yadav, will discharge the functions of the president of the BCCI.

The EWC has been called after BCCI was pushed into a corner by a two judge bench of the Supreme Court on Wednesday, which asked the BCCI to come back to it with the corrective measures it would take to ensure a free and fair probe into the IPL corruption scandal. The Board has to come out with a concrete reply before the next court hearing on April 22.

The court also rejected N. Srinivasan’s pleas to be reinstated as president he had stepped aside in March, after the apex body had recommend he do so, saying his name was the 13th on list involved in the IPL spot fixing scandal in a sealed envelope submitted by the court-appointed Mudgal inquiry panel last year.

The EWC has been convened at short notice following a demand from some state units including Rajasthan Cricket Association affiliated to the Board after the Supreme Court hearing. Yadav is known to have a close association with Srinivasan.
