EC puts down do’s, don’ts for polls

Election Commission’s regulations to take effect from Tuesday 6 pm
Chennai: The Election Commission’s regulations, to take effect from Tuesday 6 pm till the closure of the polls, state that candidates can set up a temporary campaign office only 200 m outside the polling station with only 2 persons manning it.
The EC has directed that no one shall convene, hold or attend any public meeting or procession in connection with an election and there shall be no display to the public of any election matter through film, television or other similar apparatus. This includes all electronic form of communication, including SMS and internet.
The communiqué also stated that any violation of this and the above two provisions would be punishable with imprisonment for two years or fine or both.
The EC added that kalyanamandapams, community halls, lodges and guest houses would be checked on whether outsiders were being accommodated in these premises and it would be ensured that they were not staying in the district.
No eatables shall be served at these camps. Persons manning such booths must be voters of the same polling station area and must possess EPIC for verification.
The release of results of opinion polls/conduct of opinion polls would be prohibited prior to 48 hours from the date of polling and the exit poll has already been banned.
