Vijayamma boost for Visakhapatnam

YSRC list is heavy on Kapus, BCs, Reddys; has 11 Kammas

Hyderabad: The YSRC fielded Ms Vijayamma, mother of party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, from the Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha constituency. The party believes that her candidature will have an impact on three districts in North Andhra.

The party announced candidates for 24 Parliamentary and 170 Assembly seats in Seemandhra. Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy himself will be contesting from the Pulivendula Assembly constituency.

Party sources said that he and Ms Vijayalakshmi are likely to file their nominations on April 17. Around 25 candidates from the Kapu caste and 39 BCs were given tickets for the Assembly polls. Out of 25 Parliament seats, nine tickets were given to candidates from the Reddy community, who also got 49 Assembly tickets, mostly in Rayalaseema and in Nellore. Interestingly, 11 candidates from the Kamma community were given tickets.

Top industrialists Koneru Rajendra Prasad, Alla Ayodhya Rami Reddy and V. Balashouri were among the candidates who got Lok Sabha tickets. Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy’s uncle Y.V. Subba Reddy was given the Ongole LS seat.

Four women candidates, apart from Ms Vijayamma, have been fielded for the Lok Sabha polls: Butta Renuka of Meridian School from Kurnool, Dr Samanya Kiran from Chittoor, Reddy Shanti from Srikakulam and Kothapalli Geetha from Araku.

Five Assembly seats were held back as there are more than one candidate seeking tickets. The YSRC also named IAS official V. Chandramouli to take on Telugu Desam chief N. Chandrababu Naidu at the Kuppam Assembly segment in Chittoor district.

Tollywood director Puri Jagannadh’s younger brother Petla Uma Sankara Ganesh has been nominated from the Narsipatnam Assembly constituency. Actor Roja Selvamani is contesting from Nagari.
