Officers wary of working in Telangana state

Andhra Pradesh will have excess number of Telugu officers compared to Telangana

Hyderabad: Several All India Services officers from Andhra Pradesh are apprehensive about working in Telangana state.

It is certain that AP will have excess number of Telugu officers presently working in the unified state cadre compared to Telangana. The excess is in both, regular recruits and promotees.

Sources said the officers submitted representations to state level committee on AIS officers expressing doubts about the work atmosphere. “The animosity among employees is so high before division that it will be difficult for officers from Andhra and Rayalaseema at higher levels to discharge their duties,” a senior bureaucrat pointed out. Motives may be attributed to senior officers if they belong to the other region, he added.

The committee, headed by special chief secretary M. Samuel, studied the allotment of cadre in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand. The division was smooth in those states unlike in AP, officials pointed out.

The committee, in principle, decided to recommend to the Centre to give options to the AIS officers. The Pratyush Sinha, committee appointed by the Centre on AIS division, will meet in New Delhi on Tuesday. Chief Secretary Dr P.K. Mohanty will attend the meeting.

Meanwhile, the Kamalanathan committee on division of government employees between AP and Telangana will visit Bhopal on Tuesday to study the process adopted at the time of formation of Chhattisgarh.

Sources said the committee is unlikely to finalise guidelines before the general elections.
