Congress threatens to sue Modi for providing 'false' information to voters about his marriage

Congress says how could women trust Modi, who had 'deprived his wife of her rights'
New Delhi/Ahmedabad: As BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi finally declared his marital status as married and wrote the name of his wife "Jashodaben" in the affidavit, the Congress on Thursday questioned how could women trust the BJP when its prime ministerial candidate had “deprived his wife of her rights.”
Also, accusing Mr Modi of misguiding people about his marital status for several years, the Gujarat unit of the Congress threatened to take legal action against him for providing “false” information to voters.
While the BJP defended its leader saying it’s his personal matter, Mr Modi’s elder brother Somabhai said that the Gujarat CM’s marriage should be seen as a “social formality” which had happened nearly 50 years ago at the behest of their parents.
While Gujarat Congress chief Arjun Modhwadia said, “During Assembly elections in 2002, 2007 and 2012, Mr Modi hid his marital status by leaving the space blank. Now, he has accepted that he is married. It proves that he continues to hide facts. There was a deliberate attempt by Mr Modi to project himself as a ‘bachelor’. On one side, he talks about women empowerment, but on the other, he dumped his wife.” However, Congress legal cell’s chairman Pankaj Champaneri didn’t say anything about the party’s future course of action on the issue.
