Sindhu drops out of top 10, Kashyap is world No 19 in ranking

Saina Nehwal remained static in the latest BWF rankings

New Delhi: A first round exit at the India Open Super Series last week cost P V Sindhu a place as the Indian shuttler dropped out of the world top 10, but ace shuttler Saina Nehwal was still static at the eighth place in the latest BWF ranking released on Thursday.

Sindhu was ranked ninth in the world after reaching the finals of the Syed Modi International tournament in January but the defeat to two-time All England champion Shixian Wang of China last week cost her a place as she slipped to the 11th position.

She was ranked 10th last week. Spain's Carolina Marin surged ahead of the 18-year-old Sindhu, reaching the 10th spot, following her semifinal finish at the German Open in March.

The list is still headed by Olympic champion Li Xuerui, while Shixian and Yihan Wang are ranked second and third.

In men's singles, Parupalli Kashyap jumped four places to be back in the top 20. The former world number 6 was rewarded for his semifinal and quarterfinal finishes at Swiss Open and India Open Super Series respectively.

He is currently at the 19th place. National champion Kidambi Srikanth, who stunned world number 10 Tien Ming Nyugen of Vietnam on Thursday in the Singapore Open, was static at the 25th spot.

No Indian shuttler could find a place inside the top-25 of the men's, women's and mixed doubles rankings.
