Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister backs bogus voting

Akhilesh Yadav supported party candidate who exhorted people to ensure 100 per cent voting

Lucknow: The Election Commission has taken a stern view of UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav’s support to a party candidate who exhorted people to ensure 100 per cent voting and not to fear about cases being slapped on them.

Mr Yadav has supported Narendra Bhati, the party candidate from Noida, whose statement was caught on tape.

Sources said that though cases have been slapped against Mr Bhati, the chief electoral officer of Uttar Pradesh Umesh Sinha has now sought details of the CM’s interactions with the media in which he endorsed Mr Bhati’s comments.

Referring to Mr Bhati’s statement that “We have our own government, even if the poll panel files cases suspecting bogus voting, don’t be scared, we will withdraw cases soon after the polls”,Mr Yadav had asked “Don’t people have the right to booth management?” He also snapped back at reporters saying that “booth management was not wrong”.
