GATE 2014 results: Only 16.84 per cent candidates qualify

Female candidates clearing GATE 2014 remains as low as 31, 431, from all category

New Delhi: The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2014 results which was announced on Friday have disappointed many candidates as only 16.84 per cent of the appeared candidates have successfully cleared the examination.

Candidates meeting the qualifying marks criteria set by the GATE 2014 Committee will receive their score cards and results through mail.
According to the officials from GATE Committee, from 1, 49,694 candidates qualifying the exam, 85,063 are from General category, 42,287 are from OBC (NCL) category, 17,085 from Schedule caste, 4,224 from Schedule tribes and 1,035 Persons with Disability. However, the number of overall women candidates from all category was 31, 431.
A total number of 10,33,625 candidates had registered for the GATE 2014 examination and 8,89,156 candidates attempted the exam, 85 per cent of the registered female candidates and 86 per cent of the registered male candidates. The exams were held across 660 centres in India in three weekends between February 2, 2014 and March 2, 2014 with a total of 9 exam sessions.
The top entrance exams for post graduation to secure admission in techinical education consists of a single paper with 65 questions for a total of 100 marks.
In Gate 2014 a total of 22 optional subjects were offered to students, and the most popular papers were: Electronics and Communication Engineering (2,16,367), Mechanical Engineering (1,85,578), Computer Science and Information Technology (1,55,190), Electrical Engineering (1,41,799) and Civil Engineering (90,872).
The 17 PSUs having signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) with IIT Kharagpur will receive the GATE 2014 results. Aspirants will be required to apply individually to their desired Institute/University for admission.
