Being dumped is not at that bad. According to a new research heartbreaks can actually make you help shed weight and get back into shape!

The research, as reported in Daily Star, reveals that women lose an average of 10 kgs in the first month of being dumped by a lover.

What’s more interesting is that if you stay single for a year after the break-up of a long-term relationship, the chance of being in shape is more.

Well it seems the heartache diet does work and the turmoil in your head post the breakup and help you with weight loss.

The survey revealed that almost half of the respondents had a major drop in their appetites resulting in the weight loss.

Hunting for their next prince charming, some women said they shifted weight to look more appealing and attractive.

The findings come in a new survey of 1,000 people by the diet firm Forza Supplements.

Hollywood hottie, Eva Longoria, lost ounces after her 2010 divorce from Tony Parker.

It also found that more than three-quarters of those polled (77 per cent) tended to be slimmer when they were single.

Well, it seems the key factor determining the extent of weight loss after a love split is who ends the relationship.

Women who initiate the split tend to lose less weight.

Relationship experts believe the reason for this is because women tend to plan the end of a long-term relationship for months beforehand and therefore adjust far more quickly to life as a single if they sparked the break-up.

There also tends to be less emotional upheaval for women who have taken the decision to walk away from a lover.

Three-quarters of women (75 per cent) admitted they put on weight when they enter into a serious relationship. More than third (34 per cent) said they started to pile on the pounds three months after settling down with a new lover.

Lots of celebrities have revealed how they lost weight after big break-ups. Eva Longoria, 38, revealed how she lost more than a stone and suffered health problems after her split from basketball star Tony Parker.

The former Desperate Housewives star said: "I was so skinny. I was not eating. I was depressed. I was sad. My diet was coffee.

"People kept saying, 'You look amazing, divorce agrees with you.' And I was like, 'I don't feel good. I have no energy'. I didn't know I was depressed."
