V. S. Achuthanandan suspicious over silence, demands investigation on Shashi Tharoor

Achuthanandan insists case against Tharoor must be lodged in connection with his wife's death

Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition Leader V. S. Achuthanandan on Wednesday mounted attack on UDF candidate from Thiruvanantha-puram Lok Sabha seat Shashi Tharoor demanding registration of case against him in connection with death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar under suspicious circumstances.

In a statement here, Achuthanandan said there was a provision for registration of case if the wife died under suspicious circumstances within seven years of marriage. Leaders like A.K. Antony should explain why Tharoor has not been booked yet, he asked.

In Kozhikode, CPM politburo member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said there was nothing unnatural in Sunanda Pushkar’s death being discussed during elections. There is no point in getting jittery about the issue he said adding that Mr. M. Vijayakumar would reply to the notice issued by Election Commission.

Tharoor had filed a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer against CPM leader M. Vijayakumar on Tuesday for making an alleged defamatory statement against him.
In a petition to CEO, he alleged that Vijayakumar had made a statement to the effect that “Shashi Tharoor has a doctorate in violence against women.”
