Hyderabad: Former Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Thursday announced that he will launch a new political party. The name of the party, symbol and agenda will be revealed at a public meeting to be held in the coastal city of Rajahmundry on March 12.

Sources close to Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy told this newspaper that former Telugu Desam Party MP Ch Srihari Rao had registered a new party called Jai Samaikyandhra, a few months ago, and the same would be taken over by Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy.

Incidentally, Mr Srihari Rao is the brother-in-law of the late NTR’s son Nandamuri Harikrishna. The latter is also brother-in-law of Telugu Desam Party chief N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Interestingly, Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy has borrowed the popular slogan of “Telugu self-respect and pride” that was used in the 1980s when NTR had launched the Telugu Desam Party and broke the hegemony of the Congress in the state.

Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy told mediapersons here that the decision to launch a political party was taken to uphold Telugu pride, protect the self-respect of Telugus across the world and heal the wounds that the state’s division had inflicted on Telugus.
