Japan launches hi-tech global rainfall satellite

The hi-tech satellite will help in better prediction of typhoons and floods

Tokyo: Japan has launched its hi-tech satellite, which can monitor global rainfall and help meteorologists forecast big storms.

The satellite has been jointly developed by Japan and the United States. It aims to collect data from several satellites in orbit and add that to its own measurements, building up a detailed picture of precipitation around the planet.

‘The H-IIA rocket blasted off from a southern Japanese island at 3:37 am on Friday, with the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) core observatory aboard,’ stated the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).
