Andhra Pradesh polls in time, says Poll panel

EC made it clear that elections will be held on time.

New Delhi: The Election Commission on Tuesday rejected reports that polls to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly may not be held with the Lok Sabha elections.

The Election Commission made it clear that the Assembly elections to the state including the Telangana region will be held simultaneously with the general elections.

EC sources said that the commission is mandated to hold polls to the Assembly whose term comes to an end on June 1. Regardless of the status of bifurcation, polls will be held to all 117 Assembly constituencies and 17 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana and besides the 175 Assembly seats and 25 Lok Sabha constituencies in Seemandhra, they said. EC sources said that the Centre would have to do a lot of work before effecting the bifurcation like distribution of cadre, assets and liabilities besides putting in place infrastructure for a Legislature.
