BJP corporators protest action by Congress MLAs

BJP members tried jumping to well complaining on the highhandedness of MLAs from Cong party

Bangalore: The BBMP council witnessed acrimonious scenes on Wednesday with the ruling BJP members jumping to well complaining about the highhandedness of MLAs from Congress party.

K R Puram corporator N. Veeranna alleged that K R Puram MLA Byrathi Basavaraju's supporters attacked him and his supporters during a pooja for road asphalting work. He also sought protection from the BBMP.

He got support from other corporators like Nandini from Vidyaranyapura ward who alleged that a candidate who got defeated in corporation elections was having upper hand in deciding the date for such ceremonies along with local MLA. Devasandra corporator Manjula Devi too alleged that Basavaraju was domineering and her poll opponents were being given more importance.

During this debate, Hosahalli corporator Dr Raju wondered why pooja should be offered and suggested that such practices be done away with.

In his reply, Mayor Katte Sathyanarayana said that there was no need to offer pooja and it was just a tradition. When it comes to works taken up by the BBMP, the corporators are supreme and have a major say.

He directed officials to keep corporators and MLA in loop as per the protocol. He said the MLAs should have a cordial relationship with corporators while inaugurating or flagging off any new project.

The Mayor directed officials to refrain from indulging in any kind of politics which encourages rift between MLAs and corporators.
